Information Literacy

Grace Library is dedicated to supporting student success through the development of dispositions and knowledge practices that comprise information literacy. The Association of College & Research Libraries defines information literacy as:

"...the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning."

Librarians are available to consult with faculty and instructors as they develop research-based assignments or assessments. Contact Richard Brzustowicz (rrbrzustowicz@carlow.edu) to start the conversation.

Research Guides

Research Guides are course-specific or subject-oriented web sites designed to support students in using the library and completing research assignments. Each guide has a permanent URL that can be linked directly from Brightspace for easy access.

Ordering Library Materials

The Grace Library holdings closely reflect the curriculum and are built through the joint efforts of faculty and librarians. Library collections include print books, eBooks, periodicals (both in-print and online), and videos. Faculty are welcome to submit requests for book and A/V acquisitions using the following form

Course Reserves

Faculty can request that books owned by Grace Library be placed on reserve for a course. During the semester, students can borrow those materials at the Circulation Desk during the library's staffed hours for one of the following loan periods:

  • In-Library Use 2 Hours, renewable
  • In-Library Use 2 Hours, non-renewable

Digital content from the Library's online catalog is also able to be linked to directly through Brightspace. Directions on how to link directly to library resources from your course, please view the tab "CelticOnline and Library Resources."

When requesting items to be placed on reserve, please consider the availability and accessibility of items to your students.

Instructors wishing to place an item on reserve can use this Microsoft Form to place the request: Course Reserve Request Form

Personal copies of items may also be placed on reserve. To place a personal item on reserve, please bring a copy of the following form to the Circulation Desk, along with the materials you are placing on reserve. Copies of the form will be available at the desk.

Once items are placed on reserve, they will show up on the list of Course Reserves accessible through the Library's online catalog. Links to digital items from the catalog can also be listed for your course. Faculty can share this Course Reserves link with their students by providing them with this URL: https://carlowuniversity.on.worldcat.org/courseReserves/landing
