All of UpToDate's applications can be accessed from the homepage. Key functions include site-wide search, the What's New, Drug Information, and Patient Education portals, links to over 175 commonly-used medical calculators, and the Lexicomp Drug Interactions Tool.
Enter the term, medication, or topic that you would like to research in the search bar on the homepage. You will see that a list of related terms and topics that you can choose from will appear as you are typing.
There are a few important functions available on the search results page that can help you locate the information you are looking for. At the top of the page, you can toggle between five different results categories: Adult, Pediatric, Patient, Graphics, and All.
Hover over the arrow to the right of a result to see a Topic Outline for that specific entry. Viewing the Topic Outline may help you locate the specific entry you are searching for.
Once you find the entry you are looking for, click on the title. You can navigate each entry by using the Topic Outline on the left-hand side of the page. The Topic Outline can be opened or closed by using the toggle (circled).
If you are looking for a specific term withinin the entry, there is an in-text search bar available at the top of the page that will navigate you directly to locations in the text where that term is used.
UpToDate prides itself on being fully referenced, meaning that every entry includes links to the full text of as many references as possible. References can be found near the bottom of the Topic Outline. Click on an article title to link to PubMed.
Click on the PubMed link to be taken to the full-text article record.
From PubMed, you will be able to access the full-text of the article via the "Full Text links" on the right-hand side.
