About the Gallery

CU Art Gallery: A local gallery with a global reach.

The CU Art gallery is both a pedagogical and experimental space, a laboratory for testing ideas through contemporary art practice. Here, artists push boundaries, students engage directly with working practitioners, and exhibitions become sites of inquiry and discovery. We believe art is a rigorous form of knowledge-making that moves hearts and minds into action, and the gallery is where that knowledge takes shape.

The Carlow University Art Gallery, located on the 2nd Floor in the University Commons, operates as a dynamic exhibition space committed to professionally curated contemporary art that challenges disciplinary boundaries and centers narrative as a site of inquiry. Working across all media, from traditional practices to new media, installation, and social practice, the gallery centers underrepresented voices and foregrounds storytelling as both methodology and critical framework. Through exhibitions that engage feminist theory, decolonial perspectives, and care ethics, the gallery functions as a pedagogical laboratory where curatorial practice intersects with transformative education. Each exhibition and public program invites students, faculty, and the broader Pittsburgh community into dialogue with artists whose work addresses urgent social, political, and environmental questions, positioning the gallery as a vital platform for discourse within the contemporary art field.

More information about the Art Gallery can be found on the Art Gallery homepage on the Carlow University website.

This site hosts a digital archive of current and past exhibitions, including Resource Guides made in collaboration with Grace Library.
