Who to Trust?

It is becoming more and more difficult to find news resources that reliably print the facts. Today it seems every news outlet is promoting an agenda, or even political propaganda.

Below you will find papers of record according to Pressbooks. These papers are highlighted here due to their long history of facts-based reporting, rigorous fact-checking, attention to detail, national focus, and a priority on investigative reporting.

  • New York Times
  • Washington Post
  • Los Angeles Times
  • Wall Street Journal

The following newspapers are also considered to have strong fact-based reporting with a national focus.

  • Boston Globe
  • Miami Herald
  • Chicago Tribune

Cable News

While there does exist quality, facts-based journalism in cable news, as a general rule one must be very careful when getting their news strictly from 24-hour cable news networks. Many of the most popular cable news stations tend to place a higher priority on ratings rather than journalism, and thus the lines between opinion and fact become blurred. This is true no matter which side of the political spectrum they may lean.

As a general rule, always double-check the claims you hear through cable news, and be a little more careful in distinguishing fact from opinion.
