  • Alan Turing & The Turing Test

    • Overview: Alan Turing, a mathematician and logician, proposed a test to determine a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human.
    • Significance: The Turing Test became a foundational concept in discussions about artificial intelligence and its capabilities.
  • ELIZA

    • Overview: Developed in the mid-1960s by Joseph Weizenbaum at MIT, ELIZA was an early natural language processing computer program that emulated a Rogerian psychotherapist.
    • Significance: ELIZA was one of the first AI programs to demonstrate the illusion of understanding and was able to engage in a dialogue with users, reflecting their own statements back at them.
  • IBM’s Deep Blue

    • Overview: A chess-playing computer developed by IBM, which became the first computer system to win a chess game against a reigning world champion, Garry Kasparov, in 1997.
    • Significance: Deep Blue showcased the potential of AI in problem-solving and strategic planning within defined parameters.
