This fall, we will be launching a new and updated version of Digital Collections at Carlow! The current iteration, hosted on CONTENTdm, will be decommissioned in October as we transition to Hyku—an open source, collaborative institutional repository system funded by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and made accessible by the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI) and the Partnership for Academic Library Collaboration & Innovation (PALCI). This move increases our storage capacity to 1TB from the 20GB we currently have, subsequently increasing our ability to create and share digital collections.
Over the summer, we successfully branded the platform and moved over all International Poetry Forum recordings and are currently working on uploading existing Scholars' Day materials. With Hyku, we will also be launching two new collections: a Faculty and Staff Research Repository and a Digital Carlow Archives collection (name TBD). Our University Archivist, Alyson Koenig, is working closely with the Marketing & Communications Department to gather faculty and staff CVs for their website biographies, which will be used to build out publication citations in the repository. She will also begin identifying materials relating to the history of Carlow to digitize and add to the new digital archives collection. Please be patient, as digitization and writing metadata can be a lengthy process!
We look forward to sharing this new platform with you in the near future!
Examples of other institutions' repositories on Hyku can be found at Wabash College and the Cooper Union Library.
Please see the following notes on library services for Fall 2024. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at gracelibrary@carlow.edu.
We have increased our budget for the Copyright Clearance Center's Get It Now system to $3000 for the 2024–2025 fiscal year! Get It Now is an addition to Interlibrary Loan that allows the library to purchase up to $3000 in copyright clearances for article requests that we are unable to get through WorldShare ILL—all at no cost to the requestor. Most of the articles purchased are ones that have been published recently and/or are under publisher embargo. Get It Now makes it possible for us to obtain articles that are integral to our students' and faculty's research.
The following services have been discontinued or are slated to be discontinued due to low usage or inclusion in a larger subscription. Please keep in mind that we will still be able to access materials from cancelled journal titles through Interlibrary Loan or Get It Now if they are not part of a subscription package.
