The CTRL's Course Setup Checklist can be useful when converting a traditional course to an online course or in the process of copying an online course from one semester to another. Use this checklist to keep track of the items that should be updated, checked, and repaired prior to the start of the semester. When designing a new course, we also recommend working with the OSCQR rubric.
Look Through the Content
- Are all pages with information present with the information you need?
- If you had documents and links attached to a page, make sure they transferred to the new semester's course shell. If not, make sure to upload them to the course.
- Are all assignments present?
- Are all discussions present?
- Are all quizzes present?
- Is everything in the correct order?
- Do you have modules with single items? Best practice is to collect items into one module/submodule.
- Are all graded items connected to the gradebook?
- Are all rubrics entered? Are rubrics attached to the correct assignment/discussion/quiz?
Set up the Gradebook
- Using the Setup Wizard, decide whether you want a weighted or points-based gradebook.
- In Manage Grades, check each grade item to see if it is correctly associated.
- In Manage Grades, create categories to organize your grade items.
- For any assignment/discussion topic/quiz that is not currently associated with a grade item, go to "More Options" and use the Assignments/Discussions/Quizzes list to associate the activity with a grade item.
